Welcome back to our final Summer Term!

Year 3 will consolidate our learning on the Tudors when we visit a local Tudor House, Bramhall Hall. Our trip will enable all children to gain hands on experience. They will go back in time and find out just what it was like to live in the Tudor times.

For our final term in Year 3, our topic is all about rainforests! We will learn about what rainforests provide for its inhabitants and the rare species that live there too. The children will also learn about the huge impact that the rainforest has on our environment. This term, we look forward to a visit from Animal Zoolab. Children get a chance to see, touch and handle some of the animals they have been learning about!

In Maths, we will learn about the properties of 2D and 3D shapes. We will also look at angles in shapes and know how to describe them as turns. Our learning will include using maths equipment and resources to help us with reasoning and problem solving on shapes. Again, there will be a class focus on key language skills used to support the understanding of problem-based Maths. All children will be given weekly timetables to practice. Thank you for your support at home, as we are seeing good progress. The children are enjoying the challenge at becoming much more confident at recalling their tables.

In Literacy, we are reading The Great Kapok Tree by Lynne Cherry and The Rainforest Grew All Around by Susan K Mitchell. The children will use these books to explore and write different forms of poetry. We will also work towards a ‘big story write’ where children will have an opportunity to edit their stories to improve written work. We will continue to focus on improving our handwriting through cursive handwriting. This will support their natural writing flow and spelling accuracy.

To check reading progress, we listen to your child read at least twice a week. Miss D’Silva also reads with any children who need extra support particularly with their comprehension skills. Reading and Library books are regularly changed to provide children with a wide variety of both fiction and non-fiction texts. You can help your child at home by asking questions about the characters and events of the story so that they have a good understanding of what they have read. Please also encourage your child to return books to school when they need to be changed.

PE and Games will continue to be on Wednesdays and Fridays. Our school PE kit is a white t-shirt and black/ navy blue shorts or tracksuit bottoms and trainers or pumps. Children should have their PE kits in at the start of the week and take it home each Friday to be washed.

Homework will be a Maths activity linked to your child’s current learning in class. Children will also complete one Topic based homework challenge per week, handed out each Friday and to be returned on Wednesday. We do remind children each morning however, please encourage your child to not only bring homework in on time but also to put it in the blue tray in the classroom. This will ensure that we know that it has been completed and it can be marked on time without a backlog.

Please do not hesitate to come and ask if there are any questions that you might have. We are out on the playground before and after school.

Thank you for your continued support this year. Miss Hull and Miss D’Silva
