4FO

Hello and welcome to Year 4!
I am Year 4FO class teacher Miss Ogunyemi and will be supported this year by Miss Murray, Ms Hussein and Ms Boyland.
I hope you are all looking forward to our Autumn Term. If you’d like to talk to any of us about your child, please look out for us in the playground after school. We are always happy to speak to you about any concerns you may have.

In English will be writing autobiographies about our lives so far, with a focus on using conjunctions, openers, capital letters for names of people and places and the correct punctuation. We’ll also be reading ‘Planet Omar-Trouble’ as inspiration for writing a survival guide for Year 3 children.
In Maths, we’ll be focusing on place value: reading and writing numbers to 1000, rounding to the nearest 10,100,100. This will include lots of work on using number lines with different intervals.
In Science we’ll be learning all things electric including different appliances used in the home. We will be become familiar with the components of a complete circuit. This will include investigating which materials are insulators and conductors.
In History, we will be studying Ancient Egypt as an early civilisation and how The River Nile supported its development. This will include exploring their daily life and the after-life, as well as their belief system.
In Geography, we’ll be learning all about mountain ranges around the world and the effects of tourism on different places. PHSE will be all about Children’s Rights and why they are important.
In order that your child makes great progress in school, please ensure they read everyday with an adult. Reading books will be changed on Fridays. Learning ALL the times-tables is so important, as we will be working towards our MTC test in June. It will also help with quick mental maths in lessons.
PE will be focusing on outdoor pursuits this half term and Dance next half term. 4FO and 4JK will have PE on Mondays. We will be focusing on outdoor pursuits this half term and Dance next half term. Please ensure your child wears a white T-shirt, plain black joggers and trainers. We will be focusing on outdoor pursuits this half term and Dance next half term.
