Hello and welcome back to year 1!

In celebration of Chinese New Year, we will be having lots of fun exploring the country and culture of China for our topic this term. The children will be engaging in lots of different activities. They will be making and tasting lots of delicious food and learning how to use chop sticks. The children will also be learning how to write using Chinese symbols as well as learning the Chinese dragon dance. We will post lots of pictures on our Unity Facebook page so please look out for those.

During Numeracy this term we are continuing to look at the value of numbers within 20. Please keep practicing these numbers with your children by counting daily, writing numbers down in the right direction and making the amount using various objects around the house! We will also be learning how to add and subtract numbers within 20. The children will learn to use various methods and equipment to solve 1 step problems. Please practice the 2, 5 and 10 times tables with your children as this will help in all areas of their number work.

Within Literacy, we are continuing to practice punctuating our sentences correctly using capital letters, finger spaces, connectives and full stops. Some of us will be learning how to use adjectives to make our write more interesting. You can help at home by getting your child to say their sentence out loud before writing it down as well as letting them read what they have written to ensure that it makes sense. Please continue to read with your children daily as this will help in all areas of literacy. Spellings will be sent home once a week on a Friday. The spelling quiz is every Thursday so please help and support your child to learn these words as it will really help improve their writing.

P.E takes place every Tuesday afternoon. Please ensure that your child bring their P.E kits in. The P.E kit is a plain white t-shirt and black shorts or leggings. It is very important that your child has the correct uniform to ensure safety on the equipment.

If you have any questions or concerns, Please feel free to speak to myself or Miss Cunningham after school. We are always happy to support you in any way we can.

Thanks for your support.
