Dear Parents, Carers and Families,

Welcome back!

It has been lovely to see all the children again after what has been a very unusual time!

We are very excited to be teaching your child over the next academic year, their final year at Unity!

Thank you for being punctual at dropping off and picking up your child at 8:45am at the beginning of the school day and 3:05pm at the end. It is really important that we adhere to these times during the pandemic.

This Autumn term, our topic is ‘The Vikings’. We’ll learn where they originated from using maps, about their conflicts with the Saxons and what we can learn from them

In our guided reading lessons, fluency and comprehension is a huge focus and can be supported by regular reading at home. Your child will have their reading books changed at least once a week. Please encourage your children to read books on a daily basis.

We’ll be learning about Electricity, circuits and conductors in Science including investigations to explore concepts.

In Maths we’ll focus on number and place value. We will also continue to practise our multiplication tables. There is a useful website that can be accessed at home called  Your children should know their password.

In English we will be focusing on letter writing and mystery stories as well as spelling and grammar.

This half term, we will have Forest School sessions on Fridays.

We’ll continue with our weekly PE sessions on a Thursday afternoon. Our school PE kit is:

A white t-shirt and dark coloured shorts or tracksuit bottoms and trainers or pumps. Can we ask for no cropped T-shirts or bright coloured PE kits and no jewellery, please. Please bring children to school dressed in PE kits on Thursdays

We are using SATS companion and TT Rockstars plus topic related homework.

We are always happy to speak to you about any concerns you may have.

Please support us by encouraging and supporting your children with regular reading, completing homework, plus important routines such as having a suitable bed time, punctuality and attendance.

We’re looking forward to a fantastic year with your children.

Thank you all for your support.

Year 6 team: Miss Patrick, Miss Ogunyemi, Miss Jolleys.
