Year 2HC
Hello and welcome to 2HC!
We’re excited about a new year with your children. My name is Mrs Cumberbatch, and I am your class teacher. Miss Lawrence and Miss Frej is our teaching assistant. We look forward to the new term and hope to make learning engaging and interesting for everyone. Thank you for supporting your child with reading, homework, and everyday routine. This really helps them to thrive.
If you would like to talk to any of the Year 2 team, please look for us in the playground before and after school. We are happy to speak with you about any concerns you may have.

Welcome back! We hope you all had a relaxing Winter break.
We are excited to begin a History unit on Changemakers. We will learn about historical figures who have made an impact on the world, including scientists, architects, Olympians, and more.
In Geography, we are doing a village study on Kenya. We will learn the differences between a village, town, and city, comparing Kenya and Manchester throughout the term.
In English, we will be exploring a meeting tale called The Secret Sky Garden and a finding tale titled The Egg Box Dragon. The children will develop a range of writing skills, with regular assessments. There will also be a strong focus on improving handwriting and spelling.
In Science, our topic is Animals, including Humans. The children will learn about life cycles, what living things need to survive, and how to keep themselves clean and healthy. We will also focus on the topic Living Thing and their Habitats. This topic teaches children about plants and animals, where they live, and how they are suited to their environments. They will also explore food chains and learn how to care for nature.
In Maths, we are following the White Rose curriculum. The children will continue learning multiplication and division, before moving on to shape and money. We will keep practising times tables, as Year 2 children expected to know their 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s.
This term, PE will take place on Wednesday and Thursday. Children may wear their PE kit to school on Wednesdays and change back into uniform afterwards. PE kit should include: white t-shirt, black shorts or tracksuit bottoms, and trainers or pumps, all clearly labelled.
Reading books: In our reading lessons, we will be continuing to read a variety of text types and books. Fluency and comprehension are especially important and this is something which can be helped by 10 minutes of reading at home every day. Children will receive two reading books every Tuesday, which should be returned the following week. Thank you for your support with these routines, it really helps things run smoothly.
Please check Class Dojo regularly for updates on trips, events, homework, and reminders. We’re looking forward to a fantastic year with your children.
