Year 3IW

Hello and Welcome to Year 3!

The children are making fantastic progress in our first full year after what has been a very difficult time for all. We are ready and raring to go for the final term of the school year, which we hope, will be our most successful yet with lots of interesting learning and fun activities.

If you would like to talk to any of the Year 3 team, please look out for us in the playground before and after school. As always, we are happy to speak to you about any concerns you may have.

We are looking forward to the final wonderful term with your children.

Thank you all for your support.

Ms Willoughby

Summer Term 2022

Topics Toggle

This Summer term our topics include Manchester to 1900, where we will learn what it was like to live in our wonderful city in a period of history. We will also be learning more about our wonderful world and specifically certain countries in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres.

Literacy Toggle

In Literacy, we have become great storywriters and definitely have a passion for this purpose of writing. Therefore, we will continue to write different genres of stories including a Tale of Fear and a Wishing Tale. We will also try to incorporate what we are learning in Topic and produce a Non – fictional information text on a country of our choice.

Reading Toggle

In our reading lessons, we will be reading a variety of text types and books by a variety of authors. Fluency and comprehension is very important and this is something that can be helped by 10 minutes reading at home every day. Your child will have their reading books changed every week, once they bring them into school and pop them in our home reading box. Please encourage your children to place their books in the book box in the classroom, once they have finished reading and Miss Rowlands will change it.

This is to give the opportunity to read to Miss Rowlands during the week. Books can then me collected from the box at the end of the day to read at home.

Maths Toggle

In Maths, we have done so well with number fluency so we will be moving onto tricky fractions and Time.

Time can be a tricky topic so we would appreciate if at some point at home, each week, you can have a practise with your children on telling the time.

We will also continue to practise our multiplication tables with our times table quiz every Friday. Your children know their times table targets and should be practising and focusing on those each week. This will also help and support them to work towards the multiplication assessment that will take place in Year 4.

A useful website can be accessed at home called ttrockstars.com.  Your children should know their password by now. If unsure, please just ask.

Science Toggle

We’ll be learning about Plants and Animals including Humans in Science as this is a great topic, which can be linked to our Northern and Southern Hemisphere unit.

P.E Toggle

We’ll continue with our weekly PE sessions, this will take place on a Friday morning. It would be very helpful if your child could bring their PE kit in to be changed into in the morning. This term we will be focussing on track and field games, in the run up to sports day.
