Reception N

Welcome to Reception!
I am Mrs Neil, the class Teacher. We are extremely excited to be teaching your child and hope to make learning engaging and interesting for all.
If you’d like to talk to any of the Reception team, please look out for us in the playground after school. We are always happy to speak to you about any concerns you may have.
Welcome to Summer term in Reception!
The children have made fantastic progress during our Spring term, and we are so proud of all their achievements.
For the first half of Summer term our topic is Planting and Growing and we will be exploring our big question, ‘ What’s in the ground?’ We will be learning all obout the fruit and vegetables that we eat, and we will be reading the story ‘ The Enormous Turnip.’ We will be enjoying lots of time in our outside area planting our own food to harvest and eat.
Our learning in the second half of Summer Term will be focused around ‘Life on a farm.’ We will be learning all about different farm animals and their young, and will be visiting a working farm in June to bring our learning to life.
In maths we will be continuing to develop our subitising skills, and will be identifying when amounts can be subitised and when they need counting. We will also be introducing number patterns such as doubles.
In Literacy we will be preparing to get ready to move into Year 1 by reading sentences aloud, and writing simple sentences that can be read by our friends and teachers. We will be following the Little Wandle scheme in phonics and will be moving onto phase 4. You can support your child at home by watching the videos here;

We will be continuing to send individual reading books home each week, alongside our Big Cat e-Books. To access your child’s Big Cat e-Books, go to;

As the weather ( hopefully!) gets warmer, please remember to send your child in with a hat and some suncream.
We will send information and key dates over Class Dojo so keep an eye out for our weekly posts. If you have any questions, please just pop in and see us. We are always happy to help!
Thank you for your support,
Mrs Neil, Miss Cromwell and the Reception team.
