Sports Week 2025: Street Dance with Kieran Lai & Year 6 Football Match

As part of our Sports Week, Unity had an exciting visit from World Champion Street Dancer, Kieran Lai!

Fresh from the set of the movie Wicked, Kieran gave an amazing morning assembly. All the children got warmed up ready for their workshops and were lucky enough to watch Kieran perform an incredible dance routine. He even managed to get Mr Cook and Mr Evans to show off their moves – leaving everyone impressed!

Over two days, each class also took part in their own personal dance workshop, learning some fun new moves – popping, locking and freestyling. It was amazing seeing everyone so engaged and enjoying themselves – even the teachers! At the end of the week, some of our most eager pupils took part in a dance masterclass to get personal training from Kieran, bringing together all the moves they’d learned and performing it to our parents. A huge thank you to Kieran for bringing his passion and energy to Unity. We all had an unforgettable time!

After-school on Thursday, we also enjoyed our end of year Football match between Year 6 students and some of our teachers! There was a great turn out, with children either getting involved or supporting from the sidelines. It was a wonderful, light-hearted way to celebrate Sports Week and our Year 6’s final term together before high school! Well done to everyone involved and a big thanks to all our teachers who played!

Sports Week 2025: Martial Arts, First Aid and Community Rounders

As part of our Sports Week, children across the school have taken part various amazing workshops today, learning all about health, safety and first aid.

Our Nursery and Reception children became real-life ninjas as they took part in a martial arts workshop from Bee-Safe Manchester! They learned lots of important personal safety skills, including how to stay safe when separated from an adult. The workshop also involved crawling, punching, stretching and kicking, activities which develop motor skills, agility and balance. Thank you to all the parents who came to watch and support our Early Years Ninjas.

Our year 4, 5 and 6 classes were joined by Coach Taylor from Manchester United for a ‘Mini Medics’ first-aid workshop, where children learned essential skills for emergency situations. We were taught about first-aid kits, the recovery position and how to do CPR, with everyone getting a chance to practice on a medical dummy. Thank you Coach Taylor for leading this important workshop!

We ended the day with a huge community rounders game where pupils, staff and parents got involved for an afternoon in the sun. It was amazing to see such a big turn out and pupils from all year groups having fun and taking a turn to bat! A special shout-out to Mr Evans for organising the whole event (and perfecting his underarm throw). What a wonderful end to the day and thank you to all the parents that came to watch, support and play rounders with us

International Day 2025

What an unforgettable International Day we had this year – a celebration that truly lives up to our ‘Unity’ name!

We loved seeing all the vibrant outfits representing cultures and countries from all over the world.  In our morning assembly we discovered Unity has connections to over 50 countries, and all of our pupils got the chance to show off their heritage with pride in the annual Fashion Show. What a powerful reminder of how truly international our school is!

Throughout the school day, each class chose a different country, learning all about its culture, history, and food – with creative projects and storytelling visits from parents! Whether it was music, art, stories, or writing, each country was brought to life in the classroom.

We ended the day with our annual Community Picnic – which was a huge success thanks to the amazing support of our families, staff and everyone who joined in on the celebrations! The whole community shared delicious food from all over the world and enjoyed the stalls and games organised by our staff. One highlight was a special visit from Manchester United’s Fred the Red, who played a fun penalty shootout to raise money for the school!

A special shoutout to families who brought in incredible dishes to share – your generosity (and cooking!) made the day even more special. And massive thank you to everyone for making the day such a success – staff, parents, and our incredible children. We couldn’t do it without you. Here’s to another year of our community – united in diversity!

Fay Selvan, our Big Life CEO, shared:

“What stood out most was seeing different countries represented and chatting with children about their backgrounds. It was also lovely to see friendships thriving across nationalities – from Ukraine and Sri Lanka to Syria and Ethiopia, children came together to celebrate difference and unity”.

Our Green Heroes take Market Street!

Our inspiring Green Heroes have gone above and beyond, taking part in the national Young Marketeers initiative run by School Food Matters. The exciting initiative teaches children all about where food comes from, how to grow it and how to set up a stall!

Our students have worked hard over the last few months growing their own vegetables right here at the school. As a result, they had the brilliant experience of selling their very own  fresh produce at the Makers Market on Market Street, with all the money raised going towards the food redistribution charity FareShare Greater Manchester.

They sold a delicious range of potatoes, onions, chard, lettuces, and much more! We got lots of support from both the public and our parents, who loved the fresh produce and veg – even getting a visit from Mayor Andy Burnham!

It was a wonderful afternoon seeing our hard-working Green Heroes in action! We are so proud of all of them and loved seeing them get involved with such an amazing opportunity. Well done to the Unity Green Heroes!

Nursery’s Fabulous Farm Visit

The Unity Nursery had a very exciting visit from the Mobile Farm this week, for their ‘Fabulous Farm Animals’ topic this half term!

It was a wonderful visit and unique opportunity to meet and interact with real farm animals right here at Nursery! During the day, the children met a variety of animals including cows, sheep, pigs, chickens, ducks, and goats. They were very excited to pet, stroke, and even brush some of the animals, showing gentle care and curiosity.

It was a great experience for all and a wonderful memory to mark the end of the year at Nursery. We especially loved the farm dog and really wanted to keep her as our own school mascot, she was adorable! We’re so proud of how engaged and enthusiastic the children have been — it’s been a truly memorable term on our Fabulous Farm!

Our Year 5 Cricket Finalists

Today, our incredible Year 5 cricketers competed in the Manchester Primary Cricket Finals!

With over 100 schools from across Manchester taking part in the various cricket competitions this year, we are so proud to celebrate our team finishing in the Top 10!!

It was an amazing day and so wonderful to see all the hard work and respect shown by our school team – especially in such sweltering conditions! Each and every student who took part should be so proud! Special Unity shoutouts go to Haroon for his incredible 28 run over (in just 5 balls!) and to Omar for hitting various 6s and getting several wickets and catches!

We are so proud of all of you! Well done!

Year 6 Trip to Crosby Beach

To celebrate the end of year, and final term, for our Year 6’s, we enjoyed an amazing day trip to Crosby Beach. Our students spent most of the morning working on some Geography observations, an exciting hands-on way to practice their research skills.

Afterwards, we were all able to spend lots of free time on the beach to enjoy the (small bit of) sun! We spent the afternoon playing football and cricket, and the students even loved burying one another in the sand.

It was wonderful to see our Year 6’s so engaged and making such special memories with friends before the end of term and before high school!

What a great way to celebrate all of our Year 6’s hard work!
