Year Four

Dear Parents, Carers and Families,
Welcome back to school, we hope that you had a wonderful Easter break and had a lovely rest. As we enter the final term of the school year, we look forward to working hard as the sun starts to shine a little more each day.
We’ll continue with our weekly PE sessions, this will take place on a Friday morning, as well as our weekly swimming lessons at Broughton Swimming Baths on a Wednesday afternoon. We may be late returning to school some weeks; however, we hope to be back at school no later than 3:25 each week.
If you’d like to talk to any of the Year 4 team, please look out for us in the playground after school. We are always happy to speak to you about any concerns you may have.
Thank you all for your support.

Summer Term 2022
This term our topic will be ‘My Manchester’. This is such an exciting and interesting topic that we’re sure the children will love learning about. We’ll learn all about what makes our city of Manchester so famous. We will dive into the life of our Change Maker, Emmeline Pankhurst and the Suffragettes, and how their work paved the way for women gaining the vote. We will continue our journey to explore the history of Manchester including how it industry and rich culture helped it become a global city.
In literacy we will be writing suspense stories. We will carefully start constructing stories which send shivers down your spine and make your heart race with anticipation. For our non-fiction unit, we will be exploring how to write instruction texts using appropriate sub-headings and time conjunctions.
In our reading lessons, we will be reading a variety of text types and books by a variety of authors. Fluency and comprehension are very important and this is something which can be helped by 10 minutes reading at home every day. As our class novel, we will be reading Varjak Paw by S.F. Said.
We’ll be learning about animals, in Science and investigating the digestive system of humans. We will also be exploring the different types of teeth, their functions and what we can do to keep them healthy. We will also explore food chains and gain an in-depth understanding of producer, prey and predator.
In Maths we’ll focus on decimals, percentages and fractions. We will then move onto telling the time. This is something you can help with at home by asking your child to help read a clock (both analogue and digital) to tell you the time.
After half term, Y4 pupils across the country will also be undertaking the MTC test. Pupils will have to answer 25 questions and have 6 seconds to answer each one. To help with these, please continue to access Timestable Rockstars (especially Soundcheck) as this will really help your child’s fluency and speed.
